Chancellor’s message
To All Prospective Students and Friends of Gregory University, Uturu (GUU)
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the Governing Council, the Senate, staff and students, I am delighted to welcome you to Gregory University, Uturu (GUU). The University was licensed in February 2012 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a Private University and took-off with its pioneer students in October of the same year for the 2012/2013 academic session.
Any University may claim to be a citadel of learning or a temple of intellect but Gregory University is more than the conventional citadel of learning or temple of intellect. It was founded to be a star in the global academic arena where knowledge generation, advancement and application to drive national and global economies and where the issues of human perfection through higher education to attain the good life are uncompromisingly pursued. Consequently, the motto of GUU is “Knowledge for Tomorrow”.
The vision of GUU is to be a world renowned University noted for the high quality of its teaching and research, as well as its professional, practical and entrepreneurial capacity development. Its mission is to produce ethically and morally sound, highly skilled national and global leaders to drive national and global advancement in their fields of specialization.
To achieve this mission, GUU is unfolding as a national and global seminal center of work-based university education to eradicate the age-long misconception that University education is not for industry and work in Nigeria. Here in GUU education is patterned to produce scholars cum entrepreneurs who are to fit into the world of work with exemplary performance – a performance that makes the difference between leaders and trailers, between the best and the rest. For this purpose, GUU is being set as academic arena cum industrial work place. On ground in GUU therefore, are soap factory, paint factory, printing press, Songhai Farms, media center, ICT training center, hotel and fast food enterprises and entrepreneurial center that students may graduate with hands-on experience and academic strength to fit into life and make a success.
GUU stretches its hands to build bridges to collaborate with reputable Universities and research institutions in Nigeria and around the world in pursuit of excellence. It has consummated collaborative working relationship with Morehouse College and Tuskegee University in the United States and Scientific Equipment Development Institute, Enugu (SEDI-E) in Nigeria. The beauty of the consummated collaborative relationship lies in the programmes for research, staff and students exchange, collaborative award of degrees, curriculum and institutional development. More collaborative relationships are being pursued that the students and staff of GUU may be exposed to and acquire best practices where ever best practices are found.
I call on parents and Guardians to trust GUU for the proper education of their children. I call on prospective students to obtain admission into GUU and experience a university education that is rewarding and fulfilling. GUU does not believe in sterile academic knowledge that has little relevance to the world of work and the creation and sustenance of the good life and society.
I call on prospective friends of GUU to be the vanguard of GUU idea of university education that is necessary to maintain Nigeria’s advancement in a World that is increasingly being driven by quality university education. The peak of GUU ambition is to groom and disperse in succession men and women whose ideas and professional performance in continuity shape the World.
